Mozilla Chief Operating Officer Denelle Dixon has officially joined the Stellar Development Foundation as CEO of the nonprofit organization, which promotes the top-1o cryptocurrency Lumens (XLM).

She succeeded the project’s creator, Jed McCaleb, who has moved to the role of chief architect, in which he’ll focus on protocol growth and adoption strategies.

McCaleb said:

“We’re thrilled to have Denelle lead the Stellar Development Foundation through its next phase of growth. Denelle’s long experience leading operations and business at Mozilla, as well as her work on the policy side, with advocacy around Open Internet and encryption and privacy, will be indispensable to SDF in the coming years.”

Previously, Dixon served as COO of Mozilla, one of the most successful mission-driven open source organizations. During her tenure at Mozilla, she led the organization’s ongoing fight for Net Neutrality and the global effort to ensure that people can control their personal data. She also pushed Mozilla to understand how to partner with commercial entities while staying true to its core mission of openness, innovation, and opportunity on the web.

Stellar is known as a fast, scalable, and uniquely sustainable platform for decentralized financial products and services. It is both a cross-currency transaction system, designed specifically for international settlement, and a decentralized global marketplace. Dozens of financial institutions and tens of thousands of individuals worldwide issue assets and settle payments on Stellar.

Mozilla is primarily known for the web browser Mozilla Firefox, one of the leading web browsers first released 16 years ago, in September 2002. The company also announced in August that it will block browser-based cryptojacking in future versions.

In her statement, Dixon said that her goal is to:

“listen, learn, support and do. I want to help move Stellar to the place it seeks to be, and that’s how it starts. More to come once I start. This is my first role in the crypto space officially. It’s awesome and exciting.”

Dixon has already shown a penchant for cypherpunk innovation when she encouraged Mozilla to launch the data-protecting browser extension called Facebook Container within hours of the social media platform’s Cambridge Analytica data-sharing scandal hitting the newsstands.

Dixon posted a blog post on Medium few days ago explaining why she is joining Stellar saying:

“As Mozilla’s COO, I led the organization’s ongoing fight for Net Neutrality. I led the global effort to ensure that people can control their personal data. And — perhaps most relevant to my future at SDF — I pushed Mozilla to understand how to partner with commercial entities without neglecting its core mission. Among blockchains, Stellar is uniquely positioned to connect to existing payment infrastructure, and it’s growing those connections that excites me the most.”

However, it is announced that Dixon’s arrival at SDF on May 1st will also coincide with a redesign of the Stellar website, and the new CEO could turn the makeover into more than a coat of paint. With a veteran of one of the most recognizable open-source organizations at its helm, Stellar could quickly become known as more than just a Ripple competitor.

Be it as it may, it seems that this is a good time to join the Stellar Foundation if you look what we wrote few days ago of how Crypto exchange Coinbase listed Stellar Lumens (XLM} on their professional exchange. Also, as the main competitor to cross-border remittance service Ripple, Stellar aims to support greater privacy and decentralization in the foreign exchange sector.

With computer giant IBM as one of its main partners, it stands in good stead to further the development of payments via blockchain.
